Donovan E. Abbey "Dobby" is an enrolled member of the Kosati (Coushatta) tribe of Kinder Lousiana as well as a member of the Hidatsa & Mandan Tribes of Fort Berthold ND. He is a member of the Prairie Chicken clan of his Hidatsa people and carries his Hidatsa grandfather’s name Bears Ghost. Donovan is a father of eight children and makes his home with his family in Mandaree ND.
Donovan is known for his dancing in the men's traditional category as a champion dancer throughout the U.S. and Canada. He's also been known for his role as Arena Director for various pow-wows throughout Indian country. Donovan began creating his Dentalium shell jewelry for his wife and children but quickly began receiving request from his fellow pow-wow dancers and community members for his art. His work can be found throughout Indian Country and has even been worn on the stage of the Oscars by activist, Alice Brownotter of the Standing Rock Nation during the 2018 televised performance of Andra Day and Common.
